Best Soundbars With a Subwoofer for Movies and Music
A soundbar with a separate subwoofer makes sense when television sound lacks the weight you want from films and music. The important word is separate: you gain flexibility in placement, but you also gain another powered box, another setup step and another source of bass that can travel beyond the sofa.

For a modular system, Sonos Beam Gen 2 with Sub Mini is a useful compact reference point. A larger current Sonos bar with a compatible sub is an alternative for a more ambitious room. A packaged bar-and-sub system can be simpler to price, provided you check the exact contents. The recommendations here concern documented compatibility and buying criteria, not a claimed bass-output shootout.
Compare complete systems
| Route | Reason to consider it | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|
| Compact bar plus small sub | Flexible upgrade for a modest room | Two purchases and ecosystem restrictions |
| Larger bar plus larger sub | More ambitious home-theater setup | Higher total cost and greater placement demands |
| Bar-and-sub bundle | Clearer all-in purchase | Included components may offer limited upgrade choices |
| Bar alone | Less equipment and simpler placement | Less dedicated low-frequency capability |

Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini for a compact modular setup
The Beam Gen 2 is an HDMI-based compact soundbar, while Sub Mini is a separate wireless subwoofer. Check Sonos's compatibility list before combining products, particularly if you are adding to an older system.
The attraction is the ability to build in stages. You can begin with the bar and add the subwoofer after deciding that bass is genuinely what the system lacks. The compromise is cost: adding components later may be convenient without being the cheapest way to buy a complete system.
Keep the generation explicit when shopping. A newer Beam listing, a Gen 2 clearance offer and a bundle with additional speakers are different purchases. Compare the final basket and warranty terms rather than a search result's headline price.
A larger system needs a larger reason
Sonos's current home-theater range includes larger bars and subwoofer combinations. Consider that route if the room, viewing distance and film habits justify it. A bigger product is not automatically the better choice for a small bedroom or late-night dialogue.
Before ordering, measure the space below the television and identify a powered floor location for the sub. Also consider whether you plan to add rear speakers. A system that expands into several boxes should be budgeted as a complete room project, even if the first purchase is only a soundbar.
Do not assume that wireless means cable-free. The subwoofer still requires mains power, and its connection method belongs to a particular system. It is not a general Bluetooth bass accessory that can be paired with any television speaker.

What to inspect in a bar-and-sub bundle
A bundle can offer a straightforward purchase, but read the package list. Confirm that the subwoofer is included, whether rear speakers are included or optional, and whether stands or wall mounts cost extra. Similar product names can describe different regional bundles.
Check HDMI ARC or eARC support against the television. Then look at the formats and source devices you use. A compatible streaming app, soundtrack and TV output setting matter as much as the soundbar's advertised decoding list. If you need passthrough inputs for consoles or players, verify those separately.
Treat wattage carefully. Manufacturers do not always publish directly comparable power figures, and a large total can combine several channels. It is not a reliable shortcut to maximum clean bass at your seat. Without comparable measurements, focus on features, placement and the return policy rather than inventing an output ranking.
Place the sub for the seats, not the photograph
Start with a sensible location near the front of the room, leaving the ventilation and clearance required by the manual. Listen from the sofa with familiar material. If bass sounds uneven, change placement or the system's adjustment settings before simply raising the level.
A corner can increase the impression of bass, but it can also make some notes dominate. The best location is the one that works across the listening area without creating an obstacle or stretching a power cable across a walkway. Follow the manufacturer's tuning process if the system provides one.

Keep dialogue and late-night listening in the decision
More bass does not necessarily make speech clearer. Check the bar's dialogue controls independently, and compare its night mode at the volume you normally use. A subwoofer that sounds entertaining during a daytime demonstration may need a different level after other people have gone to bed.
The speaker test can confirm that browser audio reaches the selected output. It cannot calibrate a subwoofer or establish crossover performance. Avoid treating a tone that seems loud at one seat as proof that the system is evenly balanced throughout the room.
Choose a compact modular combination when you value staged upgrades, a larger system when the room and viewing habits justify it, or a complete bundle when its contents and connections meet the requirement at a better total price. Add the subwoofer because it solves a clear listening need, then take placement seriously enough to benefit from it.
